Fishkeeping is often misunderstood by many and fish will often die as experience to beginners. While this is normal, it often cycles and people tend to deem it’s natural. However, it would be ideal to get your money’s worth and give your pet a happy and healthy life. So here are 5 of the best tips to expand your knowledge and give you a jumpstart.

Tank Size

It primarily depends entirely on the fish, but the bigger the better. A relatively big tank to the fish ensures no stunting, a longer life span, and reduces stress. Research the adequate amount of water required for your pet fish and if your building admin or condo like Amberwood at Holland allows it. Lastly, determine whether or not you can commit to the price, maintenance (water changes), setting it up, decorations, and accessories needed relative to the size of the tank.

Compatibility

Some fish can’t live with different tankmates, which can be because of territorial aggression, attacking/eating instincts, or different temperature needs. Conduct some research to find a good tankmate. Finally, your tank should be able to fit multiple comfortably if you prefer more than one species to avoid stunting and incompatibility.

Accessories

Essential accessories include a filter, air pump, heater, and anti-chlorine or water conditioner. This allows your pet fish to thrive and generates a sufficient environment with all its needs, resulting in faster growth, less risk of disease, and no deaths overall if used properly.

Natural Resources

It’s overall better to opt for natural resources in the form of soil and aquatic plants. They prevent scratches that can be caused by sharp plastic or rough materials and benefit the biological and ecosystem in the tank, absorbing waste, reducing algae, providing oxygen, and even providing little snacks!

Food

Food that contains a high value of protein should be chosen rather than cheap products. They allow their bodies to grow and strengthen, reducing risks of stunting. Watch the portions of food to avoid overfeeding and tank pollution. Sinking food is recommended for some fish types to match compatibility and avoid diseases such as swim bladder from gulping air.
