Maki Sushi is a popular and staple rice dish that originated in Japan, though it’s enjoyed all around the world. This type of sushi is also incredibly versatile, as it could be filled with almost any topping you want. It’s so easy that you can learn how to cook your very own Maki sushi in your condo at One Chuan Grove.
Ingredients:
Water (1 ⅓ cups)
uncooked short-grain white rice (⅔ cup)
rice vinegar (3 tablespoons)
white sugar (3 tablespoons)
Salt (1 ½ teaspoons)
4 (or more) sheets of nori seaweed sheets
½ pound of flaked imitation crabmeat
1 sliced, peeled, and pitted avocado
½ peeled and small striped cucumbers
2 tablespoons of pickled ginger
Toppings of your choice (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare your ingredients and preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius).
2. Bring the water to a boil in a medium-sized pot and stir in the rice. Reduce the heat to a medium-low temperature, cover it, and simmer until the rice is soft, tender, and has absorbed the water. Wait for about 20 to 25 minutes.
3. Mix the rice, sugar, and vinegar in a small bowl and gently stir into the cooked rice in the pot, then set it aside, lid uncovered, to let the rice cool down
4. Lay the nori sheets on a baking sheet and heat them in the preheated oven for 1 to 2 minutes until they are warm.
5. Center 1 nori sheet on a bamboo sushi mat (or a clean dish towel). Use wet hands to spread out a thin layer of rice on top and arrange ¼ of the pickled ginger, crabmeat, avocado, and cucumber over the rice in a row down the center.
6. Lift one end of the mat and roll it tightly over the filling to make a complete roll. Then repeat with the remaining ingredients.
7. Using a wet, sharp knife, cut each roll into about 4 to 6 pieces.
8. Serve and enjoy!
