Nigiri sushi is a popular staple of Japanese cuisine. It’s so popular that it’s consumed everywhere around the globe! This kind of sushi could be filled with almost any toppings you pick. Want to learn how to cook your very own Nigiri sushi at home in your new place at River Opus? Follow the recipe cookbook directions below.

Ingredients:

1 ⅓ cups of water

⅔ cup of uncooked short-grain white rice

3 tablespoons of rice vinegar

3 tablespoons of white sugar

1 ½ teaspoons of salt

1 sliced sushi fish

Any toppings you choose (optional)

Instructions:

1. Gather all the ingredients together then preheat the oven to 150 degrees Celsius or 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. In a pot, boil water and stir in the rice. Set the temperature to low heat, cover and simmer for approximately 20 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice becomes soft.

3. In a bowl, mix the ingredients together, fold them into the pot of cooked rice then allow to cool.

4. Position your hands under the water in the sink and wash off any excess water.

5. With wet hands, scoop up about 1.5 tablespoons of room temperature rice and squeeze the rice together between your palms and use them to mould an oblong shape. It must be about 2 inches long and 1 inch wide.

6. Place the rice ball on a plate and repeat the previous instructions above with any remaining ingredients.

7. Between every 1 or 2 sushi, rinse your hands with cold water in the sink and shake off any excess water. This is necessary to wash off the sticky and slimy rice starches on your hands. After this, continue to make the next sushi. Once all the rice balls are moulded, put one small slice of fish on top of each one.

8. Enjoy your homemade Nigirizushi!
