How does a hospital attract more patients and keep them as returning clients? The answer isn’t as straightforward as you’d imagine. As it turns out, putting the community first is more effective than branding. This is the story of Andi Sklar, whose work is now used to improve patient engagement.

The Shift From Branding to Community-Driven Approach

Healthcare providers might think that a high-tech hospital with top-talent physicians will attract more patients. While healthcare facilities are essential for communities and in emergencies, this doesn’t always translate to greater trust and patient satisfaction.

Sklar’s new approach is perfectly reasonable and shifts the focus from having the best doctors and facilities to the actual needs of the community. It makes total sense to listen to the community and address their concerns rather than a blanket one-size-fits-all method.

The industry can grow when it starts bridging the gap between the people and their healthcare providers. To this end, Sklar has a simple solution- listen to what the community needs and act upon it. She has organized interactive sessions where important matters such as preventive screening and asthma are discussed, as well as led talks by top pediatric doctors for communities. Sklar also organized open-house events where families could speak with the doctors and see the facilities.

What’s Next in Community Healthcare

This community-first initiative is now being adopted by hospitals and health care services. It’s not just about treatment anymore; it’s about educating people about wellness and enabling culturally sensitive care for populations with underserved and diverse people. In addition, patients suffering from developmental and chronic concerns can easily access mental health resources.

Andi Sklar has a vision of turning hospitals from sterile and impersonal environments into trusted hubs where people could have their concerns heard. Her ‘community first’ perspective is inspiring others to follow.
