Summer around the corner means it’s time to spend some much-needed down-time outdoors. Although, if your outdoor entertainment area is a bit dull, the thought of spending time outside might not be so appealing.

It might be time to give your outdoor entertainment area a new lease on life before you bring out the barbie! You might be considering a whole new remodel, or a simple installation of outdoor blinds Melbourne companies are well known for. Either way, it’ll make a huge difference to your space!

Add Fun to Your Summer with a New Outdoor Space

If you’re the family member where all the other family and friends like to visit, it may be time to update your outdoor entertainment area. With summer around the corner, it’s the perfect time to get it done. If you’re wondering where to start, don’t worry, our simple guide will help you out!

1.     Clean Out the Space

If you already have a space but it’s a bit cluttered, the first step is to clean it out. Throw out anything that doesn’t have a use in the space. Clean out any dead vegetation and throw out any broken outdoor furniture.

2.     Fix the Flooring

If your outdoor space has flooring, make sure it’s still functional. Redo where necessary. If you just have a concrete slab, consider adding outdoor hardwood flooring to create an inviting patio or deck area. Make sure the flooring you select is both durable and weather resistant.

If your space allows, make the area large enough to accommodate everyone on rainy days. Remember to consider leaving space in your design for items that will make entertaining easier. A small fridge, storage and additional tables are just a few options that will need floor space.

3.     Add Outdoor Blinds

Once you’ve laid the new flooring, hire a professional to install outdoor blinds around the area. This will create the impression of a closed-off room. Select a type of blind that can be opened or left closed. This will enable you to use the space throughout the year without insects or bad weather spoiling the fun!

4.     Select Outdoor Furniture

Your guests will need somewhere to sit as well as eat. Once you’ve decided on a general theme, colour or décor style for your space, choose a table and chairs that will complement the space. Remember to order a few extra chairs that fold up for easy storage. These come in handy for bigger gatherings.

5.     Add Outdoor Cooking Necessities

If your space and your budget allow, consider adding a cupboard. That way you won’t have to run into the house every time you need something! Create a dedicated cooking area either inside the space or on a porch area just outside the door for an easy workflow.

6.     Fix up the Outside Décor

Clean out and redo the flowerbeds or gardens around your outdoor space. If the area is empty, consider adding a few potted trees and plants to create ambiance.

Depending on the space you have, you may like adding extra features like water fountains and birdbaths. This will make your space feel more relaxing.

In addition to oversized potted plants, another popular idea is to create a pathway from the patio or deck area to the main driveway. That way your guests won’t have to walk through a muddy garden when the party is over. Homeowners often use recycled bricks for this.

7.     Don’t Forget the Lighting

It’s important to add lights inside the entertainment area as well as around the garden. For the garden area, you can use simple accent lights which are not only affordable but also easy to set up. If the area allows in a lot of sunlight, you might want to add a few solar garden lights for a green living option. A nice touch would be to create a path from the entertainment area to the main pathway.

8.     A Fire Pit is a Nice Touch

If your patio is big enough, you could add a fire pit. Alternatively, choose a fire pit that you can add outside of the entertainment area. Be sure to select a style that matches your décor so everything ‘fits’. The good news is that fire pits are available in a host of different styles and shapes.

9.     Remember the Power Supply Points

If your patio area doesn’t already have existing power outlets, it’s handy to add some. Where possible, avoid having to run extension cables from the kitchen through the yard every time you have guests and need to put up lights or other equipment. Consider a more permanent solution! This will make it easy for you to use any electrical appliances in the space, such as a blender for cocktails! It will also give your guests a place to charge their phones or even listen to some mood-setting music!

Final Thought

Just about everyone enjoys a good barbeque. It’s even better when you’re surrounded by friends and family. In addition to good food and great company, a cosy little area to enjoy it all just adds to the experience.

A combination of fire, light, stone, wood and plants won’t only create a picturesque design but a relaxing space to hang out with family and friends! And it will benefit your property value!
