Reducing your carbon footprint for future generations starts at home. Parents can teach their children the importance of ecological awareness and how they can contribute in their own way to save the environment with these five simple ways.

Save Energy

Small but easy steps can be taken to save energy in a Skye at Holland condo. The simple act of turning off the lights when they leave a room can have a profound effect. In addition, if your condo has lots of windows, then you can show them how to harness natural light by opening the curtains instead of switching the lights on.

Bring a Reusable Water Bottle Instead of Buying

Reuse is one of the three R’s (recycling and reducing being the other two). Have your children bring their own water jug or water bottle to school so they won’t have to buy one in stores. In addition, they will have access to clean drinking water all day and won’t have to feel the effects of dehydration.

Conserve Water

Young children and teens can learn how to conserve water from their parents. Turning off the faucet as they brush their teeth is one good example. Teach them that they don’t need to turn the tap on full if it’s not needed.

Say No to Plastic

Plastic stays in landfills for a long time and pollutes the oceans. Therefore, the less plastic we produce, the better. Whenever possible, choose a more sustainable packaging material or, better yet, bring your own bag when you go to a grocery store or supermarket.

Have Them Connect with Nature

Bring your kids out and visit nearby parks and greenery. Being close to nature is relaxing, and they’ll learn to appreciate its beauty. At home, you can have them care for a small indoor plant.
