Developing productive habits is good not just for professional growth but for personal growth as well. There’s also the added bonus of gaining an invaluable life skill and being able to use it in any situation. Start at home in your Boulevard Coast condo with these five proven techniques.

Start Small and Easy

Limit the new habit you do to just a few minutes a day. This makes it harder to say no and reduces the procrastination barrier. Instead of a 60-minute walk, opt for a 10-minute walk around the neighborhood. Make the habit visible and accessible so you can get to it easily.

Introduce Small Rewards

Rewards are a great motivator, but don’t let it get out of hand. The scale of the reward should be the same as the action. Celebrate small victories and milestones the same way so your brain can develop a positive loop associated with the habit.

Use the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro divides work into 25-30 minute intervals with breaks in-between. Once four work-cycles are done, take a longer break (around 15-20 minutes). It’s a proven technique to stave off burnout and maintain focus. In addition, you should do the more important tasks for the day first.

Eliminate Distractions

Distractions can eat a lot of time if you’re not careful. One minute you’re taking a water break, and the next you’re browsing social media for hours. At work, it’s best to turn off browser tabs you don’t need and put non-essential devices out of reach. A quick declutter every day keeps your workspace neat and tidy.

Hold Yourself Accountable

Get your partner or a family member to hold you accountable in doing the habit. If you don’t have anyone, you can rely on apps and get reminders. There’s really no excuse not to get started developing productive habits.
